Directions

  1. 1

In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat.

  2. 2

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 4

While the sauce simmers, in a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Mix well.

  5. 5

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  6. 6

Spread about 1 cup of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Arrange 3-4 lasagna noodles over the sauce.

  7. 7

Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles. Top with 1/3 of the remaining meat sauce and then 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese.

  8. 8

Repeat layers: noodles, remaining ricotta, 1/3 meat sauce, 1/3 mozzarella.

  9. 9

Top with a final layer of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and the remaining mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

  10. 10

Cover the baking dish loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.

  11. 11

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  12. 12

Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving to allow the layers to set.
