Bashful Berry and Apple Crumble
A comforting, rustic dessert that's as sweet and endearing as the forest's gentlest resident. This crumble combines tender baked apples and tart berries under a crisp, buttery oat topping, perfect for sharing after a long day's work, or simply enjoying with loved ones.

Directions
- 1
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish or a 2-quart baking dish.
- 2
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, mixed berries, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat.
- 3
Pour the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- 4
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt.
- 5
Add the cold butter cubes to the dry ingredients. Using your fingertips or a pastry blender, cut the butter into the mixture until coarse crumbs form.
- 6
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit in the baking dish.
- 7
Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the fruit is tender and bubbling, and the topping is golden brown and crisp.
- 8
If the topping browns too quickly, loosely tent with foil for the remaining baking time.
- 9
Remove from oven and let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
