Directions
- 1
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- 2
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
- 3
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- 4
Beat in the egg, orange zest, and molasses until well combined.
- 5
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 6
Place extra granulated sugar in a shallow dish. Roll spoonfuls of dough (about 1.5 tablespoons each) into balls, then roll them in the sugar to coat.
- 7
Place the sugared dough balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
- 8
Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers are still slightly soft. They will firm up as they cool.
- 9
Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
