Forest Guardian's Dark Berry Hand Pies
These individual hand pies, with their deep purple filling and thorny crust edges, evoke the wild beauty and protective nature of the enchanted forest. A perfect balance of tart and sweet, they're a delightful treat for an afternoon gathering or a magical forest stroll.

Directions
- 1
Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until crumbly, with some pea-sized pieces remaining.
- 2
Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together. Do not overmix. Divide dough in half, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- 3
In a separate bowl, combine mixed berries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Mix gently to combine.
- 4
On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about 1/8-inch thickness. Using a 5-inch round cutter or a knife, cut out 6-8 circles.
- 5
Place about 2 tablespoons of berry filling in the center of each circle. Moisten the edges with water, then fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape.
- 6
Crimp the edges with a fork to seal securely, creating a thorny, protective edge. Repeat with the second dough disc and any scraps.
- 7
Place hand pies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush tops with beaten egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- 8
Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- 9
Let cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.
