Giselle's Enchanted Apple Tartlets with Wishing Dust
These delightful apple tartlets capture the essence of a fairytale come to life, or perhaps a fairytale gone a little awry. Sweet, tangy apples are nestled in a flaky pastry, dusted with a shimmering sugar that's as enchanting as a whispered wish. Perfect for a royal breakfast or a whimsical afternoon treat, these individual tarts are both simple to prepare and impressive to serve.

Directions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheets onto a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 squares, creating 8 squares total.
- 3
In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced apples, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the apples evenly.
- 4
Brush the edges of each pastry square lightly with melted butter.
- 5
Arrange a small mound of the apple mixture in the center of each pastry square, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
- 6
Fold the corners of the pastry towards the center, overlapping slightly, to create a rustic, open-faced tartlet. Gently press the seams to seal.
- 7
Brush the exposed pastry edges with the beaten egg wash.
- 8
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed, and the apples are tender.
- 9
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly on a wire rack.
- 10
In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar with the edible glitter, if using. Sprinkle this 'wishing dust' generously over the warm tartlets before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.
