Directions
- 1
In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in warm milk. Let stand until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
- 2
Add remaining 1/4 cup sugar, salt, orange zest, softened butter, and egg to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.
- 3
Gradually add the flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing until a shaggy dough forms. Add the dried marigold petals and gently incorporate.
- 4
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 6
Punch down the dough, then shape into a round loaf. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- 7
Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
- 8
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 9
Brush with melted butter immediately after removing from oven for a glossy finish. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
