Fairy Godmother's Pumpkin Patch Gratin
A magical transformation of humble squash into a rich, creamy, and elegantly spiced gratin. This dish is hearty enough for a royal feast but comforting enough for a simple supper, reminiscent of a certain pumpkin's midnight metamorphosis.

Directions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- 2
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- 3
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant, being careful not to brown it.
- 4
Pour in the heavy cream, then stir in the nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then remove from heat.
- 5
Layer one-third of the sliced butternut squash evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- 6
Pour one-third of the cream mixture over the squash, then sprinkle with one-third of the Gruyère and Parmesan cheeses.
- 7
Repeat the layering process two more times, ending with a generous layer of cheese on top.
- 8
Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- 9
Remove the foil and continue to bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the squash is tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- 10
Let the gratin rest for 10 minutes before garnishing with fresh parsley and serving warm.
